First of all, thanks for taking the time from your busy schedule to read my thoughts on this year’s election for governor of Kah-li-fooo-nia (arnold voice). I really appreciate it. (If you are pressed for time, just read my bottom paragraph.)

This is the time of the year where we are bombarded with ads about those candidates who are running. Well, in reality, only about the two candidates that can afford commercials – your republican and democratic nominees. Who else thinks this is wrong? Many people don’t even realize that there are more than two candidates. All we see on TV is Meg Whitman and Jerry Brown.

What I love about those commercials is that you get to see the shady stuff each candidate has done. They call each other out on these shady moves/votes/whatever. After all, if you still think that these two candidates aren’t in the pocket of corporations, aren’t influenced by those who donate to them, aren’t looking out to make more money for themselves then you are blind to the reality of the situation. Accept it. It’s truth.

Every commercial I see I am shaking my head at each of these two people (Whitman and Brown) because I get to see them expose one another. That’s why after all these commercials, I’m just like – “I wouldn’t vote for any of these two.” I’m sure some of you feel the same way. We think, where the heck are those candidates who aren’t shady and really want to make our state a better place? Well, they’re not on TV. Those are the candidates who can’t afford commercials because they don’t have millions to spend. They don’t take donations from corporations. And they’re usually neither republican nor democratic.

Now, I know some of you are thinking well, I never even hear about anybody else, only what I see on TV. I don’t mean to criticize you, but that’s where the problem lies. We base our opinions on our party affiliations, on what people tell us, on the commercials on TV, and don’t do the research ourselves. We don’t take the 15 minutes to find out who else running and what they’re about. I did that the other day and found my candidate of choice. I went to her website, read up about her, and I loved that I read. She was for the same things that I am for: better education system, moving towards clean energy (wind, solar), changing the laws that benefit corporations too much, creating a state bank that acts like a credit union (meaning the money deposited and earned goes back to the union itself, creating more benefits for the members – unlike your typical “F-you-consumer-we’re-just-looking-out-for-ourselves banks like Bank of America, Chase, and others).

Today, I don’t ask for you to back a certain nominee just because I back him or her. I just ask that you try to think outside of the box a bit. We don’t have to agree with our parents and be “republican” or “democratic” just because we were taught to be this way. I understand our environment shapes us, but don’t be afraid to think for yourself – to make your own decision on what you think is right. Just because the family is democratic doesn’t mean you have to vote democratic. Same with republicans. Unfortunately, both the republican and democratic parties have become really shady in politics over the last few decades. Both promise us big things but rarely deliver. But fortunately for us, there are still people who want to make a change. People like you and me who really deep down want to see us flourish as a state, nation, whatever. Someone who stands up for what’s right for the people and not right for themselves. Don’t be afraid to be different friends. I think we need to be different so we can create a different reality.

When will people realize that our countries/planet does not need to be run by politicians. It should be scientists who care for the sustainability of natural resources that need to be running shit.

From the moment they came out with their album “With Love & Squalor“, I became an instant We Are Scientists fan.  This was way back in the spring of 2005. I had just came out of a breakup with the then-girlfriend of four years and some of their songs hit home. I must have bumped “It’s a Hit” a million times. Other awesome tracks of that album include “Can’t Lose,” “Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt,” “This Scene is Dead,” “Lousy Reputation,” and “Worth the Wait”. The whole album was ridiculously awesome.

The boys followed up this epic album with a couple others that really didn’t have that same sound as “With Love and Squalor.”  This year, they have returned to form with their new album release a few months ago called “Barbara.”  It’s more of that same sound that I really dug back in 05.
